Stop and smell the roses
The Rose in Art: From Aphrodite to Barbie
When: 13 August - 30 November 2025
Where: Carrick Hill, Springfield, South Australia
Created for The Rose in Art exhibition at Carrick Hill, Stop and Smell the Roses invites visitors to get up close and experience the beauty and diversity of roses through scent. Featuring six rare, high-quality rose absolutes sourced from around the world, the installation showcases the rich olfactory spectrum of this iconic flower.
Each fragrance is housed in a handmade origami vessel—designed by origami master Philip Shen—crafted from Nepalese Lokta paper, selected for its raw-silk texture, rose-toned hues, and sustainable origins. Together, these intimate scented works form a visually striking and immersive installation that celebrates the rose’s role in perfumery and invites a renewed appreciation for the art of smelling.
